Why use tempered glass in glass railing systems?

Glass railing systems are a very popular choice for Vancouver home owners. Versatile and modern in design, they are custom-made for use indoors or outdoors, as part of a stairway, or as part of a framed or frameless glass deck railing.

Because safety is a primary consideration for glass railing systems, they use tempered glass, also known as safety glass. This is glass that has been treated to be physically and thermally stronger than regular glass. In the unlikely situation where it does suffer damage, it will simply fall into small, blunt pieces, rather than breaking into sharp shards.

What are the benefits of tempered glass?

  • Physically stronger than regular glass. It’s made for use in homes, in car windows and even in hockey rinks to protect people from checking players and flying pucks
  • Able to withstand greater temperature variations than regular glass, making it ideal for outdoor use all year round in Vancouver
  • It’s safer than regular glass. If it does break, the risk of injury is greatly reduced because it crumbles rather than creating jagged shards.
